My HP I7 was "online upgraded" to Windows 10 and during an "automatic update" became obsolete. According to Microsoft my hardware can "no longer support Windows 10" and offered no solution. I have no virgin Windows 7 software and wish to resurrect this device with minimal file loss as possible

Please state your Windows 10 build/version. As this message when you try to upgrade to the latest build is a know problem that risen a lot with the anniversary's version. Microsoft extended support up to 2023 for that specific build, so even if you can't upgrade to the latest build, you will be able to have security update for a while (longer than on Windows 7 which support end soon)
