I have my WSUS server running on a Server 2016 machine on a NON Internet connected network. This server hosts updates for my Windows 10 1809 machines.

I am able to get the computers to report to the server and even see updates they need to download. Upon install they try to download the file and stop with error 80246002 and say they are unable to download the file.

If I run the WindowsUpdate Troubleshooter I get an error saying that I can't reach DNS like www.microsoft.com. All my computers on the network are statically set and DNS is set to my 2 domain controllers. And as I said this network doesn't connect to the internet so it can't reach microsoft.com anyway.

To fix this issue I have done the following:

  • ipconfig /flushdns Windows Update Troubleshooter Stopped services,
    renamed SoftwareDistribution folder, restarted services

I am at a loss. This is happening on ALL the computers on the domain. DNS seems to be working because if i put in the network path to the server the WSUS is on it brings up all the shares and does the same to all the computers and servers on the network (i.e. COMPUTERNAME).

Does anyone have any ideas of what I can try?
