I made a dumb mistake today. I placed my new ram card in the wrong direction. The computer did not boot and the card felt extremely hot when I took it out. The ram worked fine after I corrected its position but my pc's audio playback no longer worked. Can this be due to the damage done by the misplaced ram to the motherboard? If so, should I consider buying a new one? Will there be a compromise now on my pc's performance?

It's look as very low probability as memory bus and peripheral bus is different. But which model of CPU and motherboard (chipset) it in question, it can be important for experts?

I have an intel i7 8700 6-core cpu, dell motherboard, and intel chipset. Is it posible though that my motherboard has been damaged?

Yes it is. However, it is exceptionally difficult to insert RAM incorrectly, and when you do this you are almost certainly going to break something either in the mainboard or the RAM. So, we have to operate on the assumption that you HAVE broken either your RAM stick or your mainboard or both, and the first step to solving this problem is going to be to replace one or both of these components.

Agree. Sorry for insult, but if You can insert RAM in wrong direction is very probable to yust mechanical damage Moteherboard (As I understand, it still bootable and stable except audio). Even small scratch on motherboard can damage it.

Also, Assemble system not in case but on bare table. Unproperly set metallic motherboard stands can affect work.
