O Cão-lobo é um animal resultado do cruzamento de um cão doméstico com um lobo. Os cachorros podem acasalar com os lobos e terem filhotes férteis, por isso reclassificaram os cachorros de canis familiaris à canis lupus familiaris, o que tornou os cachorros uma subespécie de lobo, em vez de uma espécie a parte.[1] Os cães-lobos precisam ser tratados de um jeito especial em relação aos cachorros normais, oferecendo-lhes grandes espaços para correr e se sentir livre. Eles podem se tornar agressivos em relação à comida.
Apresentam os instintos selvagens dos lobos e os instintos domésticos dos cães. Os dentes caninos deles são maiores do que os dos outros cães. As raças de cães que mais são escolhidas para cruzar com o lobo são o husky siberiano, o malamute do Alasca e o pastor alemão, para que os filhotes que vão nascer se pareçam mais com o lobo. Os cães-lobos não são adequados para donos inexperientes. Existem cerca de 300 mil cães-lobos nos EUA.[2]
