I have a C2100Z. (This is a combo modem / router)

My port forwarding rules will randomly stop working. It has to be rebooted once every few days or it just stops working.

I want to set up port forwarding on a single router, and just use pf on OpenBSD for my router.

Why do my port forward rules randomly stop working?

This question appears to be off-topic. The users who voted to close gave this specific reason:

  • "Questions seeking for hardware shopping recommendations are off-topic because they are often relevant only to the question author at the time the question was asked and tend to become obsolete quickly. Instead of asking what to buy, try asking how to find out what suits your needs." – n8te, duskwuff, Keltari, Kamil Maciorowski, cat pants

If this question can be reworded to fit the rules in the help center, please edit the question.

  • As per the rules, you can't ask questions for product recommendations. This is considered off topic. I've attempted to edit the question, but I still think it will end up getting closed Unless you can be more specific on what your actual problem is, that we can address in a answer format and NOT a bunch of people with subjective opinions.

  • I will say this. Any networking device that are considered "combos" (ex: Wireless/Router, Modem/Router/Wifi. These are ALL going to be terrible products. I don't care if the device is $100 or $400. I've person been in your shoes, and all of them are bad. And your question has been asked thousands of times all over the internet. What you want to focus on is getting only a modem from your ISP. Building a router like PFSense, a simple 8 port gigabit switch and getting an access point that only broadcasts wifi. If pfsense isn't your cup of tea. Look for a heavy duty router.

  • When the port forwarding stops working, have you checked the IP addresses of the devices again to make sure they match up with the rules you have in place?

  • @Sickest I appreciate you trying to edit my question so it conforms to the rules, but if product recommendations are not allowed, I'll close my question. Thank you.
