I'm new to Linux and have been using Windows my whole life. I have been studying web development for a little over 6 months and am trying to progress into full stack so I decided to get a new laptop since my old one is still running windows 7 and takes forever to open programs.
I just bought a brand new Dell XPS 9570 i7 16gb ram with a 512 ssd and have decided to dual boot KDE Neon so I downloaded the latest user edition, partitioned 110 gb /home + 30 for root + 300 mb for boot and 8gb swap. But I have been having so many issues that I am spending countless hours researching fixes and trying to implement them.
The most problematic issue that I still can't find a solution is the fan seems to often speed up sounding like I am playing an game with max settings while doing nothing or just having a single instance of firefox open. I have tried a bunch of fixes but still can't see the fan speed in lmsensors. When I run windows the fan doesn't act like this and I can pretty much always hear the fan even when it winds down a bit unlike my old laptop that I can watch videos on and can't hear the fan. Cpu usage isn't high and temperature settings are all normal.
Another annoying issue is when I tab between programs like using the konsole and my browser to paste console commands it almost always freezes for about a minute. Many other instances of the system freezing when rebooting or the cursor lagging.
I have changed the graphics to intel from the Nvidia 1050 I and it seemed to stop the fan speed for a bit but eventually I could still hear it the same. But I should be able to use my graphics card without issues I would think.
Should I try a different version of Linux like Disco Dingo or fix something in the way I configured the setup? The fan winds up quite aggressively sometimes with just a couple windows open and I don't want to damage this as it's not even a week old.
