so i'm making a kind of code decryption program. But i can't figure out how to make it read more than one letter at the time ex.

this text says "hej" (a Danish word)
so every letter in the alphabet has 4 "dots" and "/" separates a letter but how do i then make it stop at the first 4 "dots" then calculate what letter that is, and then move on to the next section of the word?
(all the " are not in the code)
Rules of the system:
/ = separation between a letter
- = separation between a word
. = a part of a letter
: = a part of a letter
* = a part of a letter
' = a part of a letter
