Can a P55 chipset support 6GB as 2GBx3?HP Pavilion Elite (HPE-400y) gives “Memory Error” beep code when booted with more than one stick of RAMASUS Rampage IV Extreme Debug error code 79 and 5AEverything shows me that 3 of 4 Ram slots are used, but I see only 2Computer shuts down immediately after posting on second startNo POST/boot with RAM installedPC not starting - POST “Memory initialization error occurs” - RAM only working a one bankPC suddenly won't power up and boot to biosCan a water damaged motherboard or power supply ruin a functional CPU?Does BIOS need to be loaded into main memory to be executed by CPU?
This is my system purchased new back in 2013. My original water cooler radiator had developed a small leak and was running hot so I purchased a new Corsair cooler and installed it without complications. Turning the unit back on after the cooler assembly replacement the PC would not even POST – fans run, but not splash screen just black screen as if the computer will still off. Troubleshooting resolved that the computer would boot with any one of the original 4 GB chips installed in slot 1. But if a chip is installed in slot 2 or 3 & 4 I get no POST. Originally I suspected the motherboard must have gotten wet and damaged so I ordered a new (refurbished) board without change. Still only boots when chip is only in slot 1. Any one of the 4 chips can be installed and it runs fine; in fact, I used the computer for the week I waited for the new board to arrive.
Additional trouble shooting steps taken without change:
- alternate power supply
- unplugged everything from motherboard except video card, memory and CPU
everything includes hard drives and Dell's other boards - reinstalled original CPU water cooler pump and fan
- changed the few options in BIOS that are available
Hyper-threading, XD Bit Capability, and Intel SpeedStep Tech - updated all hardware drivers and BIOS to latest available versions
