I'm dithering about which RAM upgrade to get for my macbookpro either the HyperX Impact https://www.amazon.co.uk/HyperX-HX316LS9IBK2-16-Impact-Notebook/dp/B00KQCOV5C/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8&th=1

or Crucial

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Crucial-PC3-12800-SODIMM-204-Pin-Memory/dp/B008LTBJFW/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=Crucial+16GB+Kit+%282+x+8GB%29+DDR3L-1600+SODIMM+Memory+for+Mac&qid=1552057512&s=electronics&sr=1-1

Does anyone have experience with either of these, the Crucial seems to be the default choice by i'm most curious about the HyperX, and would the HyperX offer any benefits over the crucial or am I just being dazzled by the sleek black packaging?

I use my machine for a lot of heavy computing so maximal performance is important for me.

Instead of asking what to buy, try asking how to find out what suits your needs." – JakeGould, music2myear, Mokubai

  • It will utterly make no difference what RAM you buy for your MacBook Pro. If it works, it will work.

  • I read somewhere that a con of the hyperx is that it may overclock as it has automatic overclocling feature however I'm not sure how true/how much of a con that really is

I have no idea where you are getting this info since you are only qualifying it as “I read somewhere…” without any further evidence. HyperX is a RAM company. Crucial is a RAM company. Both companies make all kinds of RAM for all kinds of purposes. In the case of RAM for a MacBook Pro you are grossly overthinking this; utterly nobody overclocks RAM on Apple notebooks for any reason. This never happen. My advice? If you are hemming and hawing over this, then just get the Crucial RAM and don’t think twice. There is utterly no practical difference between the RAM you link to.
