The Title describes the problem, but there's more, so I'll be short on everything.
The problem:
- VMWare: Host Win10, Guest Win8.1. Guest's browser = PaleMoon
- Using latest SaferVPN Win app inside the Guest, Kill Switch turned on.
- At some point, after many hours of things working as they should, even though it shows the VPN is connected, it's actually not because I can check I'm browsing from my real public IP address. The connection is also not shown in Network Sharing Center
- So far they've given me ineffective solutions (turn off location service within Settings), which hit me in the head today like a rock because they weren't solutions at all even though I've been told they are.
- In search of a solution that will prevent the Guest's browser to access a certain very popular HTTPS website if I'm not connected to the VPN.
Potential solutions:
- There's a Chrome extension "Kill Switch" to prevent/allow visiting a website if it's being accessed from certain IP addresses, but I must use PaleMoon due to low amounts of RAM (16GB on Host, 900MB each Guest, plenty of Guests)
In Network Sharing Center, leave the VPN connection as Public, but make the other one as Private. In the VM, I don't have the option to do that like on the Host, there's nothing to be clicked there, just text. After which I would mess with the Firewall and the outbound connections, which also seems not quite available for modifications inside the Guest as it is on the Host.
I could use ForceBindIP, but the SaferVPNs servers are using different ranges of IP addresses, no list of IP addresses used even within a specific country.
And since I invested in and "tied" my work with SaferVPN, I can't stop using them without loss of money and a lot of time rearranging things.
I was hoping I could block the website in my router assuming it won't be blocked if it goes through a VPN connection, but the Huawei router has issues with https URLs, and I don't have a permission to use a different firmware.
Devastated and sad, kindly propose your ideas how to handle my Guests' PaleMoon browsers regarding not to allow connecting to the corresponding HTTPS URL if the attempt made will result in exposing my real public IP address because the VPN software/connection has completely failed without a warning.
Thank you...
