Windows Explorer - Different Behaviour for Double-Click of Files and Folderssort 'like a library' in windows explorer (omit 'The ', 'A ', 'An', etc)My Windows 7 Install Has Lost Its Default “double click to open file” BehaviorShutdown still available on Ctrl+Alt+Del screen despite being disabled from group policy on Windows 10Is there any way to control “Device Installation Restrictions” via the Registry (instead of Group Policy) for users on Windows Home Editions?Windows 10 - How to disable Share tab in File Explorer Ribbon?Windows Explorer – why at-character @ sometimes is not allowed in filenames? Is it possible to disable Windows Defender in Windows 10 [Home] per user? How to disable single click to open files and folders? In the Windows 10 File Explorer, the hyphen (and apostrophe?) characters are ignored for the purposes of sorting file or directory/folder names. For example:

Does anybody know how to disable this behavior?

It is affected by neither the registry setting HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionPoliciesExplorerNoStrCmpLogical nor the equivalent Group Policy setting "Turn off numerical sorting in Windows Explorer".

  • How do you want it to sort (using your example) if the hyphen is not ignored?

  • @DavidPostill Simply like any other character, by its numerical value, which is 45 / 0x2D / u002D etc. I can't fathom what's so hard about providing an option for the simplest possible case-insensitive ordinal sort, which is just by UTF-16 character value: For the example, this means: -, -A, A. As one would expect from any sort (and unlike the image above) all "first" characters are grouped together.

  • As far as I know it's not possible.

  • A correction, my previous comment should read "...simplest possible case-sensitive ordinal sort..." That is, where 'A' and 'a' are considered distinct.
