Using wildcards in Windows 10 search for applications
Announcing the arrival of Valued Associate #679: Cesar Manara
Planned maintenance scheduled April 23, 2019 at 23:30 UTC (7:30pm US/Eastern)Windows 10 Search can't find ANY applications. Even calculatorMy Windows 8.1 windows key is “stuck” (not physically)Windows 10 Search in apps behaves weirdCortana Search is not finding applications on Windows 10Windows 10 does not search for Help files (CHM)Windows 10 does not (or only partially) search DropboxWindows 10 search - disable “Search my stuff”Automatically search in all filters with Windows 10Make windows 10 search focus if already openThe Windows 10 Start menu is not launching applicationsWindows 10 is not finding all my applications
.everyoneloves__top-leaderboard:empty,.everyoneloves__mid-leaderboard:empty,.everyoneloves__bot-mid-leaderboard:empty{ height:90px;width:728px;box-sizing:border-box;
}
To start any application, I hit
(the Windows Key) to start search, and then type fire
to search for Firefox, and then click on it when it appears.
When I want to start, e.g., WinSCP, I sometimes remember only the SCP
part. But it seems not possible to search ?SCP
or *SCP
for applications. It is always showing up only the applications starting with the search string.

Windows Search has not changed in Windows 10 despite it being connected to Cortana. So there is something specific going with your configuration.

@Dave does this also work directly in the box next to start launcher? For me it only works if i go to the search for apps section.

I have NiceLabel installed.
In WIndows 10 Cortana Search box it will NOT find NiceLabel when searching for
Label, *Label nor Label
If there was a space between Nice and Label it would find it.
Since there is no space WIndows 10 will never find it what ever you try
You have to type Nice to find it. But that's the part of the application I never remember !
